Resorts
Sometimes, the view out your hotel room window is just freakin' awesome... |
Now the basic rule is, if the resort resides in another venue, then the pictures are included within that venue's web page. For instance, Maswik Lodge is within Grand Canyon National Park, thus has its pictures on the Grand Canyon Page. Same is true for Wawona in Yosemite. (The exception to this rule are the Theme Park Hotels/Resorts.)
A stand alone resort, albeit close to a venue, is on its own page. For instance, Ruby's Inn is right outside of Bryce Canyon and not part of the park, so it has its own page.
I've also come to the conclusion that if you're planning a trip, you should stay in the venue if possible. So if you're going to overnight in a National Park, stay in the National Park, if possible. It adds to the overall experience.

Edgar Evins State Park, Tennessee | |

I actually used the "cabins" (more like townhomes) in Edgar Evins State Park as a hotel when doing some stuff for Jenny during my Peaceful Pastures Farm Trip. These are mostly cabin interiors, plus a tale of my first introduction to the place. These images live on the Peaceful Pastures page. |

Gouldings Lodge | |
---|---|
Gouldings Lodge has history. You'll find it featured in a lot of "Making of" John Ford/John Wayne movies. The rooms you can rent today aren't as old as the movies, and are quite modern in fact. They all face the sandstone monuments, so every room has a premier view, among the best I've had. This link will take you to the Monument Valley page. |

Inn at the Beach. Venice, Florida | |
---|---|
Inn at the Beach is a motel right across the street from Venice beach. I stayed in a unique, small room (which I suppose could be a second bedroom to the suite next door if you use the connecting door), which faced the Gulf of Mexico. Too bad the weather was crap, but I can hardly blame the management for that. :) |

Jackson Lake Lodge | |
---|---|
There are two types of rooms at Jackson Lake Lodge, a regular room and a scenic view room. Yes, the scenic view room is worth the extra cost, but either room is desirable if you want sunset and sunrise photos, since it's a distance from any other lodging. This link will take you to the Grand Teton National Park page. |

Marina Bay Resort | |
---|---|
Marina Bay Resort no longer exists as it does in the photos from *30* years ago. I was there for a small conference once, which was more of a reward for working on a long project than an actual conference. I mean, Fort Lauderdale in January? Yeah, real tough... I wouldn't even have these pictures here if it wasn't for a tree. (cough) |

Maswik Lodge | |
---|---|
Maswik Lodge was the best reservation I could get in Grand Canyon Village, six months out from my trip. I checked every day for an opening at a rim hotel, but nope... There are some interior shots of the room (however see the page for a caveat), but no exterior pics, probably because the exterior was unremarkable. There were several buildings surrounding a parking lot, if I remember correctly. The link will take you to the Grand Canyon page. |

Rubys Inn | |
---|---|
Ruby's Inn is named after Ruby Syrett, who promoted the area in 1910, years before Bryce Canyon became a park. As a matter of fact, the Syrett family still owns the land right outside the park, as well as the two hotels, both gas stations, the restaurants, all the gift shops and grocery store. Only the original Best Western existed when I was there, and I stayed in a brand new room with a whirlpool tub right next to the pool atrium. It was rough, but someone had to do it... |

Wawona (Yosemite National Park) | |
---|---|
Wawona is a historic hotel in the park, close to the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias. I had to pay an extra $55 for a room with a bathroom, but totally worth it when the next morning it was in the 30's and I didn't have to freeze my buns off. The images for Wawona reside on the Yosemite National Park page. |

Grand Californian | |
---|---|
The Grand Californian at Disneyland is the top tier hotel at Disneyland. No room interiors, but there are images of the lobby. It was an unnecessary expense, but hey, it was the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, and how often am I going to go back? |

Universal Orlando Resorts | |
---|---|
The hotels at Universal Orlando are all run by Loews, who runs hotels on the high-end of the luxury spectrum in any city they have a presence in. Universal Orlando, like Disneyland, only has three hotels on property, all meeting the Deluxe level of hotel. (Another has been added since I've been there.) The lower-end, "partner" hotels are offsite. |

Walt Disney World Resorts | |
---|---|
Walt Disney World runs 26 full service hotels, with around 27,500 rooms, from "value" (somewhat low-end) hotels to very opulent high-end rooms and suites, and even to Disney's own version of a timeshare, they can accommodate almost any level of service desired. The Walt Disney World Resorts have their own page, with images for around 17 of those hotels. |
