Help - Place Pages
Overview
There are two basic types of pages. The Place Page and the Picture Page.A Place Page is an index into a slideshow. A slideshow is an array of Picture Pages. (An administrative page, like this help page, is essentially a place page with no index.) This page will explain Place Pages. Click on the tab above for help on a Picture Page.
Place Pages
This is what the top of the typical Place Page looks like:
Header: At the top of every page, it is a link back to my home page, and four navigation buttons that could change depending on where you are within the website. The red letter is a hotkey. The button in yellow is where you are within the website.
Location: This is where you are within the website hierarchy. Each level has an active link.
Tabs will appear if there are multiple pages or topics for this Place.
If there is a text index at the top of the page, the links will take you directly to that place in that page, which is not necessarily the page you're currently on...
This is what the index portion of the page looks like:
There might be some commentary, maybe a map or picture, but not always.
There will always be a picture group title. (In this case, "Meriwether Lewis Burial Site (milepost 386.9)".)
The thumbnail images are actually links into the slideshow. Clicking on any thumbnail will take you to a Picture Page within the slideshow.
Once you scroll down far enough, the "Home" button will appear, with a hotkey of "H". Clicking it will take you to the top of the page.
This what the bottom of a Place Page looks like:
Related (or Detailed) Links: A related link is a just that. Since US-89 runs right through Yellowstone, a link to the road is at the end of the Yellowstone Place Pages. Links like this are also used from the overview pages.
Trip Report Links: If there is an associated Trip Report, the link(s) will be provided.
Jump Links: If there is more than one page for a particular Place, these will allow you to click to another part.
Return Links: Since everything defaults to "Places by Type", I've made an effort to provide links back to other places you may have come from.
Administrative Links: Links to this help page and other administravia.
Home Button: This far down the page will probably activate the Home button. Pressing "H" or clicking the button will take you to the top of the page.
Overview Pages
An example of a Places by Type page:
It's a pretty standard Place Page, with the different place categories in tabs.
This is a Places by State page:
State Tabs: Not all letters are represented, because there are no states starting with those letters...
If there's more than one state on the page, there will be links directly to that part of the page.
If there are several Places within a State, they may be grouped. If they are, the groupings will have their own links.
Maps: These are links to a State Map, and a link to a map with the routes I took through it.
A complicated Theme Park Page:
Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World have multiple theme parks, so each park within the resort will have its own tab.
The Navigation Buttons change under Theme Parks, with a link to the Trip Report page. These are different from Road Trips...
That's about all you need to know about Place Pages! If you have any questions, ask!
