Disney-MGM Studios and

Disney's Hollywood Studios Video

This page doesn't really cover two parks, but one park with two different names. Here's the Cliff Notes version:

Disney licensed some MGM properties (movies and images, because in the mid-80's Disney wasn't what Disney is today,) to use in the planned Disney-MGM Studios park. MGM and Disney had a disagreement. Lawyers got involved. Lawsuit started before the park was even open, and litigated for 20 years.

Disney-MGM Studios opened on May 1, 1989.
On January 6, 2008, Disney-MGM Studios closed for the night.
On January 7, the park would open as Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Video on this page is labeled depending on when the video was taken.

A more lengthy explanation is on my Disney Hollywood Studios page.

The Great Movie Ride! "A Spectacular Journey Into The Movies"

This was cut together from 4 different videos, and contains both the gangster and cowboy cast member exchanges. It's script correct, but there are 3 Cast Member Tour Guides, 2 Gangster CM's, 1 cowboy CM, and a Good Witch Glinda CM.

I did dinner in Great Movie Ride in 2012 as part of a D23 hard ticket event, which is when the scene with all the people (and Glinda) in Oz was taped.

This was cut together from 4 different videos in two different aspect ratios. Mostly because the show is held in a very wide theater, and like Fantasmic!, and some parts of the show look better depending on where you're sitting.

Lights, Motors, Action! was a stunt show that showcased cars, motorcycles and a jet ski. Why a jet ski? Because they could, lol.

This was cut together from 3 different videos.

This is the original version of Star Tours, which opened in 1989.

I'm including both the standard and high-def versions of the attraction. The SD version is better exposed, the HD version bounces less, and is in HD...

This video has the original water tank pre-show, Residential Street, The Boneyard and a real, live cast member tour guide. Also included is an HD clip of Catastrophe Canyon at the end.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid (SD Version)

Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a live performance, animation and laser effects show, opening in January 1992, and closing in July 2020.

It's a brutally shortened version of the Disney movie The Little Mermaid, and actually does convey the plot of the film.

There are a couple problems with this video, such as a missing scene and the camera's problem with UV reflected light. Thus, the SD version is posted above.

Fantasmic! (SD Version)

Fantasmic! (SD Version)

Date: July 1, 2000 - 11:00PM, June 6, 2001 - 9:00PM, September 2, 2002 - 8:30PM
Location: Disney-MGM Studios, Walt Disney World

Fantasmic! was/is the nightly show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Including SRO areas, the theater could hold almost 10,000 guests, and can be shown twice a night.

The show opened October 15, 1998, and was given its own theater, rather than showing it in the general area of the theme park, like Disneyland's version. This version of Fantasmic! closed in January 2016. (It has since reopened with significant changes to try to keep it up-to-date.)

This video was cut from three different shows, and is arguably the better version from an attraction point of view versus the HD version below. (No longer true. The HD version has been updated.)

Fantasmic! (HD Version)

This is a new version of Fantasmic! (in HD), cut from two shows. It's much better than the old version that was posted. (The old version can be found on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/FZkpvwZWrI4.)

The original video was from 2009, captured from a bad seat. I found a mis-filed version from 2006 that fixed the problems from 2009 quite nicely. So they were edited together, and reposted.

Interestingly, the show audio didn't match the CD exactly, in either the SD or HD versions. I found I had to insert a frame or two of audio into the CD track occasionally to keep up with the show. Fantasmic is a pretty old show, and this could have been some analog to digital conversion difference for the CD and the show...

The Disney Stars And Motor Cars Parade was Disney-MGM's daily afternoon parade, from 2001 to 2008. (It only survived two months into the Disney's Hollywood Studios era.) It was created for the 100 Years Of Magic Celebration, the 100th birthday of Walt Disney.

The Hollywood Holly-Day Parade was the Christmas overlay of the Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade, the daytime parade at Disney-MGM Studios / Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. (Or it would be if it wasn't discontinued, lol.)

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

I've consolidated the history (well, a short overview) of the Osborne Lights in the Walkaround Video...

This is a walkaround of The Streets Of America when the lights aren't "dancing".

Due to the background music being copyrighted, or outright banned in other countries, I've... uh... massaged the audio track...

And yes, all the Osborne Lights videos start and end with the same clips, lol...

I had "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12-24)" from four of the five years I had tape, so I reduced each to 25% and put them all in a single video for comparison.
