Introduction
I do have to say it was disappointing to reach the other side of the monument
and not see an airfield, but there you are.
Even if the monument didn't
star in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, this is
still a cool place. It's situated close to the Black Hills. If
you're travelling down I-90 in Eastern Wyoming, you'll find it's 32 miles
from Moorcroft to Sundance via I-90. Or, you can detour 64 miles off of
I-90 onto US-14 at either Moorcroft or Sundance, and go to Devils Tower.
US-14 turns back toward I-90 and intersects it again at Sundance or Moorcroft,
only making it a 32 mile detour. Well worth the effort.

The Black Hills, long a sacred area for the local tribes,
is now more a tourist destination. You can easily plan a weeklong vacation in
the area, with attractions like Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave, Custer State Park,
and the Western Towns such as Deadwood.
Just don't go there during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, unless you're specifically going
for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally...
